Worth Every Penny!
Beyond a shadow of a doubt Ryan Bush, by the grace of God, has provided the Church with a blessing that shall be cherished for generations to come. Gospel Portions is an amazing resource which all Chrisitans should own, use, and enjoy to the glory of God and the exaltation of Christ.
The book (which is less like a book and more like a storehouse of treasure) begins with a short introduction in which Ryan Bush explains his intent behind the book and some thoughts on how to use it for the most benifit. However, he encourages readers to create their own routine with it when he states that, "Gospel Portions is designed to be malleable to the needs and personality of the reader. Develop your own approach to making the most of this book. Remember, its purpose is to help you abide in the gospel truths...".
The book is split into four sections of portions: Scripture, Prayers, Hymns, and Readings. In each of these sections the portions are as small as a sentence or two, and as large as multiple paragraphs. The book is covered in a brown leather-like material which is extremely soft and beautiful, and that looks amazing with the green bookmark. The paper is thick and contains an inch-and-a-half of margin space ideal for notetaking. In the Hymns section there is about an inch-and-a-half on either side of the text.
The Scripture portions draw from all sixty-six books. The Prayers are drawn from figures such as John Bunyan, Charles and Susanna Spurgeon, Issac Watts, Lewis Bayly, the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, Philip Doddridge, Thomas Watson, Matthew Henery, and many more.
The Hymns are full hymns (not sections extracted from hymns), and are listed in alphabetical order and include Hymns by Issac Watts, the Wesleys, John Newton, Bonar, Toplady, and multitudes besides.
The Readings include many portions from the Puritans, Charles Spurgeon, etc., and all pointing our eyes ever upward to Christ's grace, Christ's sufficency, Christ's glory, Christ's blood, Christ's cross, Christ's triumphant resurection, and Christ's ever-approaching coming.
I cannot recommend this book more highly. It is very adaptable to any sort of "private-devotion routine," and is perfect for bringing with you wherever you go in order to be ever encouraged and sustained by the Good News, the "real reality" in which we live; namely, that we are children of a Father beyond comprehension who pleased to save us from an infinite eternity of damnation, and has instead made us heirs, sons and daughters, priests, partakers of glory. I would encourage you to buy and enjoy this book.
