Beeke, Joel R.
In this thoroughly biblical and practical work, Roger Ellsworth shows us that much of what distracts our minds and troubles our hearts in this life comes from our attempt to make this world our home. We are strangers and pilgrims here. Right thoughts of heaven will transform our whole thinking about things on this earth. In fact, the more heavenly minded we are, the more earthly good we will be!
Roger Ellsworth was born and reared on a farm near Vandalia, IL. He came to the knowledge of Christ at age 8 and began preaching at age 11. Beginning at age 16, he served as pastor of Southern Baptist churches in Illinois, Kansas and Missouri. He is currently serving as Pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He and his wife, Sylvia, have two sons, Tim, who is News and Media Relations Director for Union University, Jackson, TN, and Marty, who is Pastor of Emmaus Road Fellowship, Whittington, IL. In addition to serving as a Pastor, Brother Ellsworth also served two years as President of the Illinois Baptist State Association and ten years as a trustee of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, two of which he was Chairman of the Board. His wife served two terms as trustee of Lifeway Christian Resources. Pastor Ellsworth has also written extensively, having had forty books published by five publishing houses. In 2003, he was selected as Alumnus of the Year by Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO, and served the same year as the guest preacher for the seminary’s annual Week of Preaching.
