Appendix: A Paraphrase of the Lord’s Prayer

“Here is a Puritan treasure long unavailable, but it has finally been edited and published by Reformation Heritage Books. It throws warm light on sublime doctrines, particularly focusing on Christ’s sufferings and the benefit we receive from them through the Lord’s Supper. You will benefit greatly from this book by reading it either before or after the Lord’s Supper is administered. I highly recommend it.” — Maurice Roberts, emeritus pastor, Free Church of Scotland (Continuing), Scotland

“Where have these sermons been all my life? I have to confess to not knowing about John Shower’s treasure trove of sermons and addresses on the Lord’s Supper, but I will return to this volume again and again for insight and applications on the Supper. Absolutely top-shelf!” — Derek W. H. Thomas, senior minister, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

About the Author

John Shower (ca. 1657–1715) was a prominent nonconformist minster. Born in Exeter, he was encouraged to preach by Thomas Manton after receiving his education in Exeter and Taunton. He ministered in exile in Holland and later returned to London, where his church relocated twice due to its expanding congregation.
