After a lifetime of research, James Ussher set out to write a history of the world from creation to 70 A.D. The result was published in 1650 as The Annals of the World. Using the bible as his main source Ussher began with the death of Nebuchadnezzar as a reliable date and worked backward through the genealogies of the Old Testament to arrive at the date of creation as 4004 B.C. Ussher relates both famous accounts and little known events in the lives of pharaohs, Caesars, kings, conquerors, pirates and murderers. He tells of the rise and fall of nations and gives accounts of the events that shaped the world. Ussher’s massive work contains over 12,000 footnotes from secular sources and 2,500 citations from the Bible and the apocrypha. This edition has been translated into modern English from the original Latin text and includes a CD-Rom with charts, graphs, maps, and timelines.
