Arnold Dallimore who was pastor of the Baptist Church at Cottam, Ontario, for almost twenty-four years, was born in Canada of British parents. During his work for the B.Th. degree at Central Baptist Seminary, Toronto, his interest in Whitefield was awakened by the eminence given to him by all who had written on the History of Preaching. Yet though Whitefield was so often referred to as one of the greatest evangelists since the Apostles Dallimore's curiosity was the more aroused by the fact that so little detailed information on him was available and large areas of his life appeared to be virtually unknown. This commenced the long course of study and research now consummated in this definitive biography. The difficulties of the project were lightened by the author's discovery of material hitherto unknown, including a Diary of Whitefield's and a number of items of correspondence.
