Sir Richard Baker (1568-1645) wrote several books of “meditations” and “disquisitions” on various topics. This book contains three of those works, all being discourses on the Psalms. He discusses the first Psalm, seven penitential Psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143), and seven consolatory Psalms (23, 27, 30, 34, 84, 103, and 116). As A. B. Grossart said in the introduction to this volume, “I cannot suppose any reading them without spiritual excitement and incitement.”
