In this book, Anthony L. Chute explores the role of Mercer within these debates as he promoted the first form of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Chute shows how Mercer defended missions, education, and cooperative efforts on the basis of a Calvinistic theology. This study provides insight into the emergence of Southern Baptists as a mission-minded organization with a Calvinistic foundation.
